چکیده

This paper introduces a new wireless MAC protocol, MACA-BI (MACA By Invitation). The protocol is a simplified version of the well known MACA (Multiple Access Collision Avoidance) based on the Request to Send/Clear to Send (RTS/CTS) handshake. The Clear to Send (CTS) control message is retained, while the Request to Send (RTS) part of the RTS/CTS handshake is suppressed. MACA-BI, preserving the data collision free property, is more robust than MACA to problems such as protocol failures (control packet collision and corruption) and finite turn-around time. Analytic results for a 1Mbps single-hop far-field wireless network, and simulation results for a 10Mbps multi-hop near-field ATM wireless indoor network, show that MACA-BI outperforms other multiple access protocols in high speed, steady traffic environments (e.g. ATM VBR and CBR) and where the propagation delay can be neglected (typically indoor).

MACA-BI (MACA By Invitation) A Receiver Oriented Access Protocol for Wireless Multihop Networks

| A novel wireless MAC protocol named MACA-BI (MACA By Invitation) is introduced. MACA-BI is a simpli edversion of the well known MACA (Multiple Access Collision Avoidance) protocol, which is based on the Request to Send/Clear to Send (RTS/CTS) handshake and which has inspired the IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN standard. In MACA-BI, the RTS part of the RTS/CTS handshake is suppressed, leaving only th...

Throughput and Delay Analysis of Slotted MACA-BI MAC Protocol for Mobile Ad Hoc Network

Abstract Medium-access-control (MAC) protocol for wireless networks proposed are based on collision avoidance using handshake between sender and receiver. However, most of the research efforts have been in the direction of sender initiated protocols. Only few receiver initiated protocols are proposed by the researchers such as MACA, MACA-BI, etc. In this paper, we have modified the MAC-BI by di...

A Multiple Access Protocol with Collision Avoidance and Multi- CTS Candidates for Multi-channel Ad-hoc Networks

-The multi-channel technique is a powerful scheme to improve the capacity of wireless network. CSMAC/CA based medium access protocols use carrier sense and RTS-CTS handshake to reduce the collisions of the share channel. In this paper, we propose a new MAC protocol for multi-hop ad hoc networks, which combines the CSMA/CA and Multi-channel techniques. And we call it Multiple Access with Collisi...

MAC Enhancement to Support Quality of Services (QoS) in Ad Hoc Wireless Networks: EMACA (Enhancement of Multiple Accesses with Collision Avoidance)

An ad hoc wireless network (AWN) is a collection of mobile hosts forming a temporary network on the fly, without using any fixed infrastructure. Characteristics of AWNs such as lack of central coordination, mobility of hosts, dynamically varying network topology, and limited availability of resources make QoS provisioning very challenging in such networks. QoS (Quality of Service) is the idea t...

MAC Enhancements to Support Quality of Services (QoS) in Ad Hoc Wireless Networks: EMACA (Enhancement of Multiple Accesses with Collision Avoidance)

Ad hoc wireless network (AWN) is a collection of mobile hosts forming a temporary network on the fly, without using any fixed infrastructure [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]. QoS (Quality of Service) is the idea that transmission rates, error rates, and other characteristics can be measured, improved, and to some extent guaranteed in advance in ad hoc network however in particular concern for the c...
